Ideation
With the introduction of a new video series at my job we wanted to create promotional materials to advertise it on the website and on social media before it launched. To begin, I decided to research what themes were associated with Data Science and decided to settle on the binary system. The title card for the video series has a cut out effect that I decided to replicate in my graphic to make it cohesive. I added a binary pattern to the words data scientist to draw focus to them as they are the focus of the series.
HDSI follows campus wide branding guidelines, which often leaves us with a very limited color palette. I faced many challenges trying to make pieces visually interesting but still cohesive, legible, and adhering to branding guidelines. This often results in me making multiple copies of something I am working on and trying out different color combinations.

I especially struggled on this assignment with ensuring there was enough contrast between the words and the background as well as between the binary design and the words. I needed the text bright enough to stand out against the background but I needed the binary system to be able to be brighter to stand out against the words. When the binary pattern was darker it made the words hard to read. I eventually solved this challenge by making the words Data Scientist slightly darker than the rest of the words and using the positioning of the binary pattern to help distinguish the letter outlines.

Replication
For the social media graphic I kept the text layout the same as it was the most logical way to split up the title but the new dimensions left the image feeling a bit bare on the top and bottom. To rectify this, I recreated the binary used on "data scientist" in each corner with a fade in effect. This added complexity to the graphic while keeping the overall look cohesive.
